  1. Enough with this ridiculous notion that the best path forward for our program as we stand here right now is to start over. While it is true that Frost is responsible for the entirety of what we see on the field, we can't have our cake and eat it too. You have to look at the whole picture and you have to compare it to 2017/18. The fact is, this team is light years more competitive than it was 2 years ago. The fact is, Frost is a HUGE reason for that. He came in green, he took some HUGE lumps, he made changes, he grew as a coach, and what we are seeing today is the direct result of that. He has a team that loves him and goes out there and fights HARD every week. There are still holes. Special teams.. Woof. But, he has shown over and over again that he will fix that. But credit him for the rest, man. Credit him for the guys he brought in to allow us to be competitive this year. Credit him for changing the makeup of the athletes on the team to fit into the Big10, etc. Part of the reason people are so are upset that we lost to Michigan St because it was "supposed" to be a win at the beginning of the season. And that is true, but St is looking to be a better team than we thought they were a month ago. The good news is, most of the teams we have chalked up to losses look a lot more beatable now in turn. We have a get right game here with NW. We need to make sure we make it a get right game. If the boys are committed to Scott and this season, they will be there for it. I no longer worry about them not showing up nearly as much as I used to, another thing I am thankful Frost has changed. From there, we see chinks in the armor all over at Michigan, OSU, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Hell, OSU may not even have enough guys to field a team by the time Day gets done running them out of town one by one. So, we go out and play those teams like we belong there and all of the sudden, the season doesn't look so dire. I suppose if we meltdown and lose our way to the end, there may be no choice but to make a change, but we owe it to the program to let it play out. There is good progress being made here, starting over should be reserved for the apocalypse.

  2. False. Cam's snaps are not a conversation anymore, we don't have lineman falling down presnap w/ no contact, we have recruited large bodies to fit in the Big10 on the line, he brought in special teams analyst, etc. Again, you can argue they haven't been the perfect steps but you can't argue that he has not taken steps. False. We have lost maybe 1 excellent player and brought in about 5. This isn't a hill you want to die on, as Frost is actually borderline masterful at the portal game so far. False. He has taken steps and made staff changes EVERY off season to try to fix it. You don't want to see it because it is easier to just throw a fit and stamp you feet and say, "This isn't perfect," but there was ALOT broken here. And we finally have a program after 10+ years that we can be proud of. They are doing things the right way. Strength, conditioning, culture, attitude, out of the newpapers, working, building, etc. Maybe you forget the days where we got Melvin Gordon'd by teams much worse than we play this year routinely, but I don't and I can take what I see right now 1000 times over before I watch that "give up" culture again. They start next week.

  3. Firing Frost would set us back? Back to what? Missing bowl games? Finishing unranked? Being out of conference championship talk after 2 conference games? He is staring directly at the worst win % of any head football coach at NU. Our defense loses both safeties, MLB depth, Stille, domann, possibly CTB. This should be the year that things click. 4 years to recruit to your system, 4 years to identify and fix deficiencies etc. Why didn't Riley get 5 years to fix the Pelini culture? Why didn't Callahan get more time to install his system and make more changes? Let's be honest if our HC wasn't named Scott Frost every single one of you would be calling for his head. It really is that simple.

  4. Nope. For the first time in years we are seeing progress. Eventually it will translate to wins. We need to let it progress. It will happen. Time to hire a special teams coordinator. That has cost us all our losses this year.

  5. Saddest story i ever heard. My uncle died in vietnam, was given all the praise from my grandma growing up on how he helped provide cover fire while his platoon tried to make it to safety, he was killed in action. Latter when attempting to do a story about it for a high school paper i found out from members of his platoon that shared a foxhole with him that wasnt the case. He ran out of the fox hole out of his mind and got himself killed. I will never attempt to know what it was like to be 19 and be in that situation. We honor his memory because he was a good man and he did have a kind heart. Just was to much for him i guess. We never told my grandma it would of broke her heart. Whenever someone mentions vietnam or a foxhole i always think him.

  6. False. He was hired to turn the program around. Many signs indicate he is doing so. We cut bait now we are just giving another program the winner we have been patiently training. Let's not do that. Let's ride with our guy and reap the rewards that are coming in 2021 and beyond until 2050.

  7. Failing to make postseason play 4 years in a row? At Nebraska? I don't know, it just seems like it's never going to come together for this staff.

  8. Trev has said more than once that being competitive is more important than a certain number of wins. We've lost one score games two consecutive weeks to ranked teams on the road. Trev isn't firing Frost.

  9. Problem is, we’ve shown no signs of fixing the mistakes.

  10. Glad I never had to share a foxhole with most of you soft whiners. I'll let you back on the band wagon when Scott takes the fight to Fitz.

  11. So, the thing is, this is probably how year one or maybe year two should have looked. A tough team that fights hard that makes some mistakes but has chances to win the games at the end. Year four should be NU sitting at 4-1 right now, maybe 5-0, looking at the division and pretty much having it wrapped up already with how crappy all the other teams are, knowing they just need to beat a lame a$$ iowa team at home (I think) at the end of the season. The east is down this year so it would probably be a great Big Ten Title game. But instead, we are creating threads about how Frost should stay. If his name was Bob Schmeckie and he was from Florida and played at Truman State...he would have been gone already.

  12. I sincerely hope you're right, but can you give any specific evidence showing the signs that Frost is really turning the program around? We're staring down the barrel of another 4-win season, which is no change from '18.

  13. The only improvement I have seen is on defense. Period.
    5 points
  14. If you can't see improvements, go ahead and ask for his head. Put us back at square one. If not for special teams errors - we need changes and improvement there - notably the 7 yard punt and the punt left when coverage was for right - we get a different outcome. Right now we look better than we have for many years - have some faith that Frost keeps improving. You Debbie Downers really should think before you post this stuff - "mind-boggling ways?" You really think we are where we were 3 1/2 seasons ago"?

  15. He fixes things that are glaring problems. Honestly, one of the only coaches during this failed 20 year experience that I can say has been willing to look at things that aren't working and change them. He DID attempt to fix the special teams problems by doing exactly what you stated. Now, certainly in hindsight we can say that it wasn't enough but it is not that he ignored the issue. He just didn't find the right solution yet. I have no doubts that he will make changes in that area again this offseason because he has shown over and over again that he is not afraid to do so and will do so when necessary. Again, the guy isn't perfect but he deserves credit for not being so stubborn or blind or scared to change.

  16. The argument of "who are we gonna get if we fire Frost" is lame. Frost would get fired because of his job performance. The first step in the process is firing a guy, then the next step is to hire a good replacement. Firing Frost wouldn't set NU back, when NU has done nothing to move forward under Frost. Yes, his teams "look" more talented and the defense has improved, but the lack of discipline and constant mistakes are indicators of a poorly coached team.

  17. Frost has had plenty of time and nothing holding him back but himself from making big-boy staffing changes to get us over the hump. We had three seasons of disappointment and did nothing this past offseason but replace an analyst, that's not how you win. Yes this is the same old movie Frost, and you're the director with plenty of resources and minimal studio interference, so this is all on you.

  18. Basically That's where the rational folks are at.

  19. I should also note that if I am the coaching staff, I am begging him to stay for another year. The guy has literally, by himself, made the offense look way more proficient than what it truly is due to the terrible horrendous oline play.

  24. If we hadn’t improved our secondary, linebackers, d line, running back room, quarterback, wide receivers, and tight ends, we’d be ranked 132 and getting embarrassed every week, but oh well.
    4 points
  25. I think we could still go 8-3 or 7-4 if we correct these problems. The d can keep us in games, we have had good game plans for the most part the last 4 games. The d is a big part of that, nothing about any team in for the rest of the season scares me. They have all shown problems in these first 4 weeks.

  26. Special teams is losing games for this team. Let's take that off the table for a moment. It was a good game. A good game for anyone watching college football. Fox Sports probably loved it. If you watched the last two Nebraska games on prime time national television, you'd agree that no team can take Nebraska for granted. That's a big step up from where we were four weeks ago. I'll take it. Both offense and defense had a plan for the #20 team in the nation, including the NCAA's hottest running back. Arguably Nebraska got better in the second half, and seemed ready to own the fourth quarter before aforementioned special teams play. Maybe bad Adrian returned with the fumble and interception, but given the amount of offense running through Adrian and the decisions he made, I give him high marks for this game. He's a baller, and maybe the nation is seeing this a little better than Husker fans are right now. Our OL has it's problems, but Frost and Martinez made the adjustments so Adrian can find receivers within the three seconds he has to plant and throw. i saw a Red Zone strategy that worked --- give Adrian a run pass option on two plays, and he will convert on at least one. Attitude was back. That was a pretty badass team that took a 20 - 13 fourth quarter lead when AM walked into the end zone. Defense was on fire pretty much all day. Am I tired of moral victories in losses? Apparently not. For the first time I can see us winning any of these upcoming games, and I guarantee you we're starting to make other Big 10 teams nervous. It's progress. Well, except for that special teams part. And the false start penalties. Jesus.

  27. How? He has a .321 winning percentage in the B1G. That’s worse than Riley’s worst season at Nebraska. Sure it looks better than when Riley was a deadman walking, working with a DC he didn’t want to hire. If he makes a bowl this year that’s tangible progress. If we’re sitting at 5-7 or 4-8 and 5th in our division once again, it will show we’ve made up virtually no ground since he’s been hired - literally sitting where we have every year since Riley’s last season.

  28. Exactly. The media suppresses or downplays stories that do not fit their political agenda. I assume FOX did the same for whatever came up about the Trump kids.

  29. You nailed it. Frost was hired to win division or conference titles by Year 4. Some have lowered their standards so much that finishing 6-6 or 7-5 is like a major milestone. I want to let Frost finish out this season, but the bar should be a winning season for him to keep his job. I am curious if Nebraska had hired rising star Tom Herman (instead of Frost) and his record was 14-23 in his 4th year, would those claiming Frost needs more time feel the same about Herman?

  30. A lot won't agree, but going for OT I saw a coach that needs to learn to coach to win. He coached to not lose. And has for 4 years. I think we are currently 14-23....Frost is 5-15 in one score games. He coaches to not lose.....That's on him. 5-15.......
    4 points
  31. If he has made improvements, why does the team continue to lose in the most mind-boggling ways? It's been that way for 3 1/2 seasons. That's on him, I don't think he has a way to fix that.
    4 points
  32. I learned Adrian Martinez should be a receiver but his backups still aren't ready for the bigtime and would probably make a lot of rookie mistakes. A local high school could field a better special teams. I still believe this could be the most talented receiving crew the Huskers have ever had....if only we had someone who could pass them the ball without them having to do back flips to catch it. Had he stayed, Noah Vedral should start. Hopefully Smothers and Haarberg come along real fast.

  33. I said he needed fired last night, but I'm kinda cooling on that idea now. We are soooo damn close to being 5-0 or 4-1 right now it's frustrating. Special teams cost us two wins against Top 25 teams along with our constant penalties on the O-line. Frost needs to fix those two areas IMMEDIATELY and I think we can keep up with any team we've got on the schedule. This team is so damn close in several ways and it's frustrating to watch as a fan. FIX IT FROST!

  34. I would say this was the Online's best game of the year. MSU did the exact opposite of OU and brought tons of pressure. Quite a few times they were sending 5 and 6 guys. I was a lot more pleased with blitz pickup and guys blocking LBs in the run game. There were still a lot of mistakes blocking (the number of penalties is inexcusable), but I actually see some improvement.

  35. Brilliant or stupid? Is this even a question? We punted to the side of the field where we didn't have coverage. So...the answer is "stupid." We also punted a ball 7 yards earlier in the night. Also stupid.
    4 points
  36. If the punter just punts right it doesn't matter that Michigan State has two punt returners on the field. None of the "trickery" matters if the punter does his job.

  37. If you watch back the video (it is on youtube), the Michigan State punt returner on the right side of the field did an awesome job of luring the Nebraska players to continue to run towards the right side of the field. The non-catching receiver looked up in the air and acted like he was going to catch the ball. If he would have looked down, or started running to the left side of the field to start blocking, there never would have been a return. The guy without the ball never touched anybody, but was well coached enough to do exactly what he was told to do and made the play. Yes, it was a bad punt, but he really made the play. That is the tiny difference between well coached and not. I have been a Scott Frost fan since he got here, but he is well over his head. If you watch his post game pressers on youtube they all say the exact same thing. He is a good guy, maybe even a great guy, but he has lost any respect that he may have had. I am not trying to stir the pot, just wanted to really point out the well coached non catching punt returner that executed perfectly.

  42. Trev: Tough loss yesterday. Scott: Yeah, shoulda won. We held them to 14 yards in the 2nd half. Trev: About the special teams… Scott: We’ve spend a lot of time on it in practice. Trev: Which part punting, kicking or receiving…anything? It seemed like a lot of punts didn’t get caught and bounced for another 20 yards. Scott: We figured that if we don’t field them is no chance for a fumble...or safety. Trev: You guys have talked to the punt team about how when the coverage goes right and punt needs to go right too? Scott: Ya know, Trev, this a problem with Mike Riley’s teams that we inherited. Trev: We need to find a student who can make a punt longer than 7 yards. When the punters practice does anyone actually watch them? It kind of appears they are expected to show up on Saturday and do their thing...Perhaps send a grad assistant to check out the intermural teams…How about that offensive line? The pentalties kind of held things up in the first half. Scott: Those things happen. Trev: I’m a little curious why you look so mystified on the sidelines when those penalties get called, because…let’s be honest… it’s virtually every game…Say, does Greg Austin know Steve Taylor, former QB at Nebraska? Scott; I think so. Trev: He’s a great realtor…Say about your quarterback coach. Has he ever coached at Power 5 school? Scott: He was at Rutgers. TreV: Gotta give give him credit for that. It just seems that a quarterback coach might be able to “coach” the quarterback to hit the tight ends when they are wide open…Maybe they didn’t do that at Rutgers…Lets see…the other backups to Adrian transferred, right? Scott: Yeah. Trev: Kind of hard to get a read them right? Woulda, coulda shoulda…but listen Scott, no matter how this works out you’re getting generational wealth, right? …I think we might be still paying Bo Pelini.

  43. Everyone said it would take time. Even the people calling foe his head. It literally baffles me that they can’t see the progress.

  44. I agree. It amazes me that people are calling for his head. We are competing against teams that under bo and sprinkle daddy, we’d have been blown out. Oklahoma would have killed us, yet we should have won last week. We al but won this week, under bo that rb would have had a career day and been on a heismen watch.

  46. Saturday was a tough ending. I understand the reactions from many. That said, I'm actually encouraged. I haven't seen our defense look like that in a long time. At minimum, that side of the ball deserves the full support of husker nation imo. Doing the black shirt tradition proud.

  47. They're trying to get him to throw somebody under the bus. He's not that kind of person, and nobody on this team is either, thank god. Maybe not doing enough, but they're slowly improving. I said at the beginning of the year they need to score 4 TDs a game for us to be in it to win it. We just need to close things out in the RedZone, and we're there. To me a field goal is a loss inside the 20. We need to figure out how to cut down on the sacks. 26 first downs and 442 yards of offense in a game like this is not too shabby. All night it felt like Rahmir was close to busting one loose. We just need to find chunk plays in the running game and we'll be a completely different team. This game has me feeling really good about this team. We have a legitimate chance to win every remaining game on our schedule this year. Gotta find a way.
